Below the Frozen Ground

The Lit Path (Stewart Park)
At this time of year, below the frozen ground, seeds stir.  This is how everything starts, with this deep inner quivering toward life. Something interior in the seed's quiet dark life knows to awaken, to stir and shimmy. In a few months the stir will become a thrust through the protective shell, through the hard dark earth to sunlight. When we listen and are in sync enough with nature's seasons we too will feel this stirring inside and outside of us. Deep in the belly of our wounds and winters; deep in the darkness of our rich soulful soil is a seed.  This seed stirs for your attention.
What do you feel from deep within you that stirs and shimmies?  Write about that.

The seed yearns for the light. The stem pushes up and out to the light. What tugs on you, calls you to bring that seed to full blossom?  Wonder about that.  Listen. Write about what wants the light.

Have you noticed that with some plants that the seed sticks to tip of the stem? What is this a metaphor of in your life?  Write about that.

This time of year can be filled with hope and potential when we notice and nurture that stirring seed. When we hold the inner darkness with patience, curiosity and generosity, something wonderful will come to the light.  The patience not to push something that is not ready to break through the protective barrier and darkness. Patience to be in this season and not rush or insist on what's next. The curiosity to notice and wonder about all the stirrings inside us and around us presently, in this season. What wants to happen here? Write about that. Curiosity about what our role is in nurturing and sending the light to this seed, so it can reach its potential.  And the generosity toward oneself to be kind in our intention to create something meaningful from our lives. Then, a generosity of love and light to share our blessings with others.

Where in nature do you feel most connected. Visit this place through your imagination. Write about that place.

I finally created a space to play with my ideas. A nice long table in one of my writing spaces. (I have 3 writing desks in my tiny cottage home. Each one has a unique intention.) This long table is for writing big on unlined paper, or creating art from my nature scavenging.  A place to visualize and play with my ideas.  I might even write on the wall.  A seed that stirs and shimmies for me is the creation of my first writing prompt card deck using the Wheel of Initiation as my template. Writing prompts for each direction and season!

What seed in you needs a place, space to grow?  Write about that.  And, get to creating that sacred space.
