What do I actually do for my clients? How does it work?
Let me start with what I don’t do, and what I am not . . . For example my Awakening the Zero Point circles, or other groups, are not therapy groups or an encounter groups revised from the 70’s. It is a circle where lasting transformation happens through personally working with intentions within a group context. I am not a traditional therapist where we meet and it’s two talking heads going over the past. I am not a pathologist. I do not look for or focus on the problems or the solving of problems. This approach of “problem solving” (as much evidence points to) limits us. Instead, I do bring our attention to all the possibilities that are inherent in you and in the circumstances that surround you. I do not focus on the past but understand the past in lieu of the present – as we put our energy in what wants to happen in the present.
I don’t encourage anyone to be in “search” of the perfect partner or spiritual experience. I don’t encourage anyone be in search of their purpose or for the meaning of life. Instead, I recommend we each embrace ourselves as meaning makers. Everything each of us needs to live a full and uplifting life is in reach. A creative and transformational process is always about making meaning and bringing forth what is within you and your environment. A “seeking” mode only limits what you can see and “find.”
Transformation happens as a direct result of insight gained through your consultations with me. With meaningful awareness, you will have knowledge of what wants to happen to generate positive movement in any area of your life.

What can you expect as a result of a session with me? What are the Zero Point Integrative Sessions like?
My sessions are consultations rather than traditional therapy. Sessions are conversational, narrative that result in a “take away” for you to focus on between sessions. Sessions may include meditation, breathwork or other transpersonal practices that a personalized to you. My Zero Point Integrative Healing sessions are an hour and a half long, involve narrative medicine, meditation, explorative conversation and, integrative energy work for the last half an hour.
You can expect clarity where needed, inspiration when stuck, direction when feeling lost, confidence where it is lacking through self-awareness that generates personal insight and wanted transformation. You can expect personal insight and movement within a short period of time. You can expect an honest and dynamic relationship with me.
I view our relationship as exploratory. You come to me to consult around various challenges or issues you have in your life. We explore various emotional, psychological, spiritual and relational aspects of your experiences. You learn to explore these aspects and learn to let go of what no longer serves you and transform the negative to the more positive. Radical acceptance and appreciation, and living life from within are key to a successful transformation.
Through an active participation by both of us I help you to transform your thinking from being in “search” mode to becoming a meaning maker where you experience your own creative and spiritual capacities. You will receive deep insight through personal investigation that will offer you real means to generate the desired movement in your life. I offer you a personalized approach, since no two people are ever the same.

What is the difference between a consultation and counseling session?
In many ways I see myself as a mentor and “elder,” and at the age of 59 hold this position of mentor and elder with high esteem. I am a transpersonal consultant that focuses on your ability to make meaning and generate movement in your life no matter what your circumstances. I am not one to rely on any “formula” but I do know how to show up in a real conversation with you. Together, within a short period of time, we can make change happen. Well, honestly, you make the change happen. I act as a navigator but never ever take the steering wheel from you. And as a skillful navigator, I can point to several possible routes to take to reach your desired destination.
My consultation sessions with those whom I am working with on their writing includes consultation on the process of writing, the psychology of writing and the writer’s life. How one lives their life is reflected in their writing process. I am not an agent or “editor” but can refer you out to those who do this kind of work with people. I am a content manager in that I help bring your ideas and work into a comprehensive whole.

How long does it take for a client to achieve a breakthrough?
In one to five sessions a significant change in the internal landscape of your life will take place. (This is based on your involvement and commitment to the process). Many people get what they need in just a few sessions. As a result of the internal shifts, your outer landscape of relationships, vocation and overall life experience will respond and improve.
For some, on-going sessions (beyond five) are typically offered bi-monthly and then monthly to encourage to establish continued movement and success in one’s commitments. Also, during more challenging times of life, some people will want more sessions to help them navigate the difficult times. Overall, people come in for a consultation and can spend up to several months exploring and integrating the ideas offered in our sessions.
For those coming in for more persistent concerns we work together until you have achieved your goals.
People return to me for future consultations but typically need only one or two consultations to get the desired results.

What do you mean by spirituality? And how is this different from religion?
I agree with what the Dalai Lama stated -- “Spirituality I take to be concerned with those qualities of the human spirit–such as love and compassion, patience, tolerance, forgiveness, contentment, a sense of responsibility, a sense of harmony–which brings happiness to both self and others. While ritual and prayer, along with the questions of nirvana and salvation, are directly connected to religious faith, these inner qualities need not be, however. There is no reason why the individual should not develop them, even to a highest degree, without recourse to any religious or metaphysical belief system. This is why I sometimes say that religion is something we can perhaps do without. What we cannot do without are these basic spiritual qualities.” –Taken from Ethics For The New Millennium
In my work with you, I help you bring out the spiritual qualities mentioned above, as well as, make a deeper connection to what you believe is your spiritual source (be it the Buddha, Christ or Mother Nature).
How do I know Julie is the right fit for me? How do I figure this out?You can begin with a free 20 minute phone consultation to help determine if I am the right fit for you. Also taking a look through my website may help you decide if we share in some of the same values.
You may also want to take a look at my book, The Zero Point Agreement: How to Be Who You Already Are as that reflects a lot of my philosophy and work.

What is meant by transpersonal?
Transpersonal psychology appreciates the concept of transpersonal states that bring about personal awareness and insight into one’s experiences. Transpersonal gets beyond the singular experience and understands that we are all interconnected and dynamically interacting with all of life. Transpersonal emphasizes self-awareness that goes beyond just the personal and includes mystical, spiritual or/and a collective consciousness.
Transpersonal means that we cannot separate ourselves out from the whole if we want to heal. We are part of the whole and the whole is in us. Transpersonal psychology works with this relational phenomenon through practices that encourage increased awareness of self in relation to “all that is.” Transpersonal, “beyond the personal” helps us to reach higher states of consciousness and understanding through such practices as meditation, personal ceremony, breathwork, chanting, art, group ceremony, insight practices and spiritual practices.
The more transpersonal the practice, the more empowering it is likely to be for the client.
A transpersonal practice is easily integrated into one’s life and does not require being involved in practices or groups that take you away from your personal and vocational life. A transpersonal experience attributes all the success and movement to the client’s efforts, not to the counselor or formula.
Transpersonal consulting seeks out the prinicple of unity and belonging — and helps you answer the question of how and where you belong. Such a process connects you with your own intuitive and creative wisdom. At the same time you are always understood as part of a whole — part of a bigger picture which includes your more personal relationships but also includes the entire world in which you belong. You are part of something beautiful and dynamic, and transpersonal work helps you to tap into this reality.
Transpersonal work is active, dynamic, creative, communal and deeply spiritual. Transpersonal work also relies on nature and natural law as a way to bring you and your surroundings into balance.

As a therapist, faith leader, or, healer myself, what would I get from seeing you?
Many of those in the counseling and health care profession come to me for consultation.
I am a seasoned counselor and practitioner myself, and have worked with doctors, nurses and therapists for over 35 years. I have facilitated consultation circles for healers and counselors (The Shaman’s Body) in Wisconsin and Minneapolis, MN. I offer retreats, workshops and consultation to faith leaders and others in the healing profession.
Also, one of my locations is 20 miles west of Madison in Prairie du Sac Wisconsin, this affords my clients more confidentiality. I live outside of Spring Green Wisconsin and practice in Prairie du Sac and Madison. I am not likely to know the specific people you are referring to.
I have studied and written books and articles on the integrity of those in the position of helping others. I have a personal and professional commitment to making the vocation of helping others inspiring and based in integrity.
I encourage and respect healthy and realistic boundaries for those in the helping profession.
Since I do not bill insurance companies this allows for a deeper sense of confidentiality.
