Write-by-the-Lake will be replaced with Write-by-the-Light The 22nd Write-by-the-Lake Writer’s Workshop & Retreat was the UW's last.
Testimonials: "Write by the lake changed my life. Julie taught me so much about how to focus my writing on what I wanted to say. She gave us countless tools to use to cultivate whatever kind of writing we are interested in. She taught me about sentence structure, myths, archetypes, themes, pivotal moments, prompts and most importantly, to explore and ask questions. To put it all out there and go for it. Julie has a way of bringing her authentic, funny, open, and intellectual self to class everyday. This inspired me and everyone in our class to do the same. I have made some great friends and have continued support both from Julie and my classmates. This was the experience of a lifetime. My memoir is almost finished. I could not have done it without Julie’s guidance." –Kimberly Lempart, memoirist, writer, artist
"When I signed up for Write by the Lake, I knew I wanted to write a book, but I didn’t have a clear idea of what the book would be about. I signed up for Julie’s memoir writing course and bought her book, The Zero Point Agreement. As soon as I read the first page I knew I had chosen the perfect teacher (Sherpa) for me. Julie’s teaching style is encouraging and heartfelt, and over the course of the week my mindset shifted from writing as an indulgent hobby to an act of self-expression and service that can actually change the world. Julie’s guided processes and interactive writing prompts took me from idea to a template for my entire book within the week. I now have a completed manuscript that is ready to publish, and much of the writing I did at WBTL is in my book! Julie provides tools and insight that you will take with you for your entire writing life after the week long class. I am forever grateful that because of Julie and her compassionate teaching style, I am now a writer. " –Moly Chanson, MA, Yoga Instructor

"I joined Julie’s writing circle with a wisp of an idea and no book writing experience. Nine months later, I had completed manuscript. Julie lives the Writer’s Life. A gifted and generous teacher, she transmits what she has learned in her 25 years of writing and publishing to her clients and groups. Julie’s coaching and the atmosphere she created in the writing circle provided the perfect environment for my writing. I highly recommend Julie’s Writing Circles, Writers’ Days, and Writeshops." ~ Natalia Erehnah, author of Swan Mothers: Discovering Our True Selves by Parenting Uniquely Magnificent Children www.swanmothers.com
