Bindu Breath work ™ This Month's Teaching: Hidden in View Grace
Seeing the beauty of this bird so unusually close was a gift, but watching it blend into the hill and trees it perched among was the greater gift. Hidden yet in full view the eagle sat looking out over the valley too. I wondered, how many mornings had this eagle sat perched across the valley, looking out, present but unseen? I wondered how true is this of the beauty that is all around us, all the time? How much is present but unseen? The eagle showed the omnipresence of the Creator; what others name the presence of the Buddha nature in everything. All day I kept witnessing that eagle and its beauty in everyone and everything. I realized that even though Truth, beauty or one’s Buddha nature may be hidden or disguised it is always in view. Everywhere. Present in everyone. Present in everything. We all would benefit from obtaining this view; to experience our own and other’s Authentic (eagle) nature. This can be challenging on difficult days, or on days where the news is so horrific we rapidly connect with a dark and hopeless view. But it is during difficult times that we need to connect with this more spacious view, knowing that good is there, just hidden. When we lose this more graceful view - -“See how without confusion it is all that it is, and how flawless its grace is. . .,” we lose touch with the grace that is everywhere. (Those who cause great harm to themselves or others are out of touch with this grace). Fortunately, there are practices we can use to help us obtain and keep this view and feel the omnipotence of the eagle-presence all around us. A regular meditation practice, where you still the mind and are able to watch and let go of your thoughts, will allow for this graceful view of the world. This can be done sitting quietly and stilling the mind through mindfulness meditation, where you rest your awareness on your breath, or, it can be done sitting quietly in nature and listening to her breathe. Another great practice includes conscious journal writing (spiritual journaling). This writing practice holds within it an intention to increase your awareness through writing. Spiritual journaling helps see what is hidden inside yourself. Many books and classes encourage this type of journaling. An exercise you can practice this spring is to go out into nature for fifteen minutes. Listen to the sounds in nature. Have your full attention be on the sounds in nature. Then first write about the sounds you heard. Secondly, using these sounds write about what you don’t remember. Repeat the line “I don’t remember . . “ instead of stopping your pen to think. Thirdly, create a poem from your journal entry. I also rely on the I Ching to help me experience a more graceful world and to get the eagle-view. This ancient Chinese oracle offers me a way to see more clearly into the truth of a situation, giving me a more universal understanding of my experience. Some people use nature as their oracle or animal cards. Some rely on reading uplifting words from a book. Whatever widens your view and lifts you up is a good oracle. “The woods is shining this morning” – may you find peace in her.
